They took part in the casting of the statue of Buddha of Nara.
They manufactured guns and Japanese swords.
Muromachi period(1336-1573) - Edo period(1603-1868)
They manufactured knives for cutting tobacco leaves and then became active in kitchen knives.
About 17th century, the development of the blacksmith's forging technology in Sakai became popular as "SAKAI UCHIHAMONO" throughout Japan.
